Swami Vivekananda Biography | Youth Icon Of India | inspirationaltalkings

A fact : " Where there's a will there is a way " . And in every era there has always been such people on this earth who has made this fact meaningful through their remarkable works. Among such persons, there was a son of a lawyer at the Calcutta High court, who had an extreme devotion towards God and mankind as well as did an incessant works towards humanity which made him the youth icon . His name is Swami Vivekananda.

Vivekananda's earlier name was Narendranath Datta who was born on 12th January, 1863, in a bengali family of Calcutta. He had a deep interest in spirituality and often used to meditate in front of deities. Not only subjects like literature, social science, philosophy ,but also, Hindu scriptures like Upanishads, Vedas, Bhagavad Gita, Purans, Ramayana, Mahabharata gave him fascination of reading them. His interests were not only limited to his reading. Further, he decided to introduce the ideologies of Vedanta and Yoga in the entire world.

1881 was the year which brought turning point in Naren's life when he met Indian mystical guru Ramakrishna in Dakshineswar. Naren was his chief disciple and founded Ramakrishna math in Baranagar, West Bengal after Ramakrishna's death.

He toured different parts of India, stayed with people of different religions and emphasized on serving mankind. He left India in 1893 and moved towards western countries to share methodologies of our Vedanta. On 11th September 1893, Indians got a chance for heightening their head with proud due to Vivekananda's spectacular speech in World's Parliament of Religions in Chicago where he spoke about Hinduism with an astonishing introductory line, " Sisters and brothers of America " after which he received 2-minute standing ovation from the crowd. This day is celebrated as " World's brotherhood Day " . He became the headline of several newsletters and was quoted as " cyclonic monk from India " .


After several years of continuous work, Vivekananda's body held on with various diseases like Asthma, Diabetes, Chronic Insomnia and migraine. Despite all these, he once again visited West and established Vedanta societies in San Francisco, USA. He discussed about the essence of Bhagwat Gita . No matter wherever he went, he always raised voice against social issues like Caste system, inequality, poverty etc. . He strongly emphasized nationalism and gave a new direction to the Indians with a modern approach. " Arise , Awake and do not stop until the goal is reached ", his famous quotation gives a very strong message to our youths.

India was under colonial rule and people were under-privileged. Vivekananda single handedly raised voice to establish Industrialization and inspired Jamshedji Tata for an industrial move for the growth of employment in India.



On 1st May, 1897, Vivekananda founded Ramakrishna mission for social service and it's headquarter has been addressed at Belur math along with that of Ramakrishna math. If are already a visitor of Advaita Ashrama located in Mayavati then you would have probably come to know that Swami Vivekananda was the founder of it.


He left the world on 4th July, 1902 while doing meditation. His disciples concluded that he attained Mahasamadhi and intentionally left the body. Although, he's not with us and several years passed upon since his death, but, his works, visions and sayings have been Inspiring several generations and will inspire even further.


On one side he was a man alone who lit up the lamp of knowledge of truth when India was under the darkness of ignorance.


When the entire world was busy admiring their own religion , Swami Vivekananda was the one who said that different religions follow different paths but goal is same for everyone.


He was such a legend who had inspired other legends like Nikola Tesla, Jamshedji Tata, Sister Nivedita, Subhash Chandra Bose, J.C. Bose, Rabindranath Tagore and many more.


He is the pride of Indians. His name is Swami Vivekananda .
